Road to Hana.....

Tuesday morning Jasmine got all packed up because she was flying home that afternoon. We left our condo around 10 a.m. and headed south in search of a fun beach. We ended up at Big Beach which was a ton of fun. The waves were huge and the current was super strong which was quite scary! The girls stayed under the umbrella and made sandcastles while the three of us took turns attempting to ride the waves on our boogie boards! It was fun and super frightening at the same time:) We stayed there a few hours then headed to the airport to drop Jaz off.

We had toyed with the idea of going to Hana, which we had heard was a beautiful but long and treacherous drive. We saw a sign that said Hana 54 mi. and thought well, that doesn't sound that bad:) It was almost 2 in the afternoon by this point, but we thought what the heck. So we headed toward Hana. We first went through Paia which was a cute little town, then we passed a beautiful beach with huge waves where people were windsurfing and kite boarding!

Then we passed a sign that said narrow winding road next 30 miles! Then began the switchbacks! It was windy roads with a 15 mi. hr speed limit! Several times we thought maybe we should just turn back, but we kept pressing on. We made it to the end of the road at around 5:00 pm and saw the seven pools of wonder which was part of a National Park. They were beautiful, but probably not worth the three hours of windy roads. Oh, and once we got to the end of the road we had to hike a 1/2 mi. in to actually see them! It was all good, but we were really dreading the drive back! So we stayed there maybe an hour tops then began our trip back to Wailea. Alex cried most of the way back which was so sad! It was really hard driving the windy road in the dark. To make it even more scary, there were several areas with no guard rail and huge drop offs into the ocean! We made it back to our condo around 9pm, Alex by this time was fast asleep. So we just put her to bed. Brock grilled some steak by the pool and made steak fajitas which were great! After dinner we all went to bed, we were so exhausted!

So, the best part of the day was definitely going to Big Beach. If we had to do it all over we definitely wouldn't go to Hana with kids! Oh well, you really don't know till you try:)

So that sums up our fifth day in Maui. The next two days we're hopefully going to avoid road trips and just play at the beach most of the day. make shift guard rail!
